Sambava is a small town and district on the east coast of northern Madagascar. It is located along the main route 5A which runs from the southern city of Antalaha north to Ambilobe.
The Sambava panther chameleon is considered one of the most colorful locales of panthers. They have a wide range of colors that can turn into an intense display when they are fired up. The most obvious trait of the Sambava panther is their “U” bar pattern. Most locales contain a “Y” or “V” shape bar pattern where the Sambava typically has a very defined “U” shape.
In their relaxed state a Sambava’s body will mostly be shades of green with darker red bars showing through. Reds, oranges and yellows can also be present but typically the intense lava coloration doesn’t appear until fired up.
